Topic: What three things do you think are vital to an amazing relationship?
Before tackling this week’s topic, I asked my best friend for his thoughts. “What three things do you think are vital to an amazing relationship?” I asked.
“Great sex!” he said, immediately. He then paused for thought. And kept pausing. ”Hmmm…..”
“Dude, you’re a joke”.
“I’m thinking!”
“You can’t think past great sex?”
“Sex is important!”
“Women are going to think we’re incredibly shallow.”
“It’s okay. They already know.”
After much deliberation, my buddy concluded that the other essential elements of an amazing relationship are “a deep, personal connection”, and “lots of laughs”.
I’m not inclined to disagree. I just want to try to state it in a more interesting way.
Because it’s easy to say what I’m looking for in a partner:
Someone who makes me laugh and turns me on.
Someone who is my best friend, lover and partner in crime.
Someone I trust and love unconditionally.
Someone I can communicate with, who will be there through good times and bad.
It’s trickier to talk about what I’m looking for in a relationship – without well-worn clichés.
So, for the sake of trying to come up with something different...
In an ideal relationship:
- You feel like you’re the lucky one.
- Your partner sees you as your best self.
- You feel secure that you’ll be accepted as your worst self.
It may not be “Attraction, Trust, Laughter”, but if you’ve got these three things, you’ve got it all.
Wow, I really like that. You've just managed to describe my exact feeling in your last three bullets.

That was great! I agree with everything you wrote. Sex is an important thing, but so is EVERYTHING else that you listed. I think most people what to feel or have what you stated in a partner & in a relationship, however not everyone will wait to get it all...which they should!
